If you are anything like me you’re not a morning person, you dread the sound of the alarm and invariably hit the snooze button at least once every morning. Or maybe you’re one of those bright and cheery morning people who just loves to watch the sunrise at the start of every day. Either way chances are you could use a little help to jump start your morning and start things off right.
Here are a few suggestions to help you hit the ground running each morning:
When you wake up in the morning its been quite a few hours since you last drank anything, plus your first stop is typically the restroom each morning. This leaves you already in need of re-hydrating your body first thing each morning. Most Americans reach for the coffee pot, however coffee is a known diuretic which means drinking a cup or two in the morning can actually leave you even less hydrated than when you first woke up! This can really slow your system down, making you feel less alert, less energized, and generally feeling down.
The best thing to do is start your day with a glass of water or herbal tea, even if you do enjoy a cup of coffee make sure you also drink 8-10 ozs of water afterwards to stay hydrated. Or better yet start your day with a glass or cup of Moringa Tea. This powerful superfood provides your body with a nutrient “jumpstart” to get you off and running. Packed with vitamins, phytonutrients, protein, and more, Moringa Tea is a great addition to your morning ritual.
2. Eat Breakfast:
One of the most often overlooked and yet crucial aspects of your morning ritual is breakfast. While our first inclination is to skip it, either because of lack of time or lack of interest, doing so can really set you back. In fact, it may even be contributing to weight gain, loss of energy, and overeating throughout the rest of the day. According to the Mayo Clinic, eating a nutritious breakfast is clinically proven to increase energy, promote weight loss, and reduce overall daily calorie intake. Make a point to make time for breakfast, skip the cereals though and make healthy choices.
I am guilty of this mistake myself, I rarely make time for breakfast. Usually that’s because hitting that snooze button has robbed me of the time and I am left rushing out the door without eating. If your like me try this, make your breakfast the night before. Then simply reheat in the morning so you can optimize your time. Another option is to make a nutritious morning shake or smoothie. Here is my own recipe for my morning smoothie:
Morning Smoothie Recipe:
1/4-1/2 cup Frozen Organic Blueberries
1-2 scoops of Low Carb Vanilla Whey Protein (choose a minimally processed, Hormone Free, Whey Concentrate not Isolate)
1 scoop of Flax Seed Powder or other Fiber Supplement
1 scoop of Powdered Ribose Supplement
A splash of Raw Organic Kefir or Organic Greek Yogurt
Sweeten to taste with Stevia
1 cup of Ice (more or less as needed)
Optional: Add 1 Raw Egg or any other powdered supplements you want.
Blend Well and enjoy.
Now here is what you can do to speed up the process each morning, combine all of the ingredients except the ice & Kefir/Yogurt into a ziplock sandwich bag and throw it back in the freezer to pull out in the morning. This can speed up the process and help you maximize your time each morning.
4. Pray, Mediate, and Take a Deep Breath:
Sometimes we get in such a hurry we forgetting whats truly important. We have busy lives and things to do, and often we end up missing out on what’s really important. Instead, make a conscious choice each morning to take a deep breath, spend some time praying, reading the Bible, meditating, and collecting your thoughts. Take a moment and focus your mind, your will, and your emotions on the day ahead. Get in the right frame of mind, don’t let your hurried circumstances determine your outlook on the day. Instead, take control of your day by setting your mind with determination that your day is going to be great!
Slow down a bit and kiss your family before you rush out the door. Remember all your hard work is for them but sometimes we get to caught up being busy and forget to take the time to let our loved ones know we love them.
These are just a few steps you can take to help make your day great from the start!
